[London, England] Need a dedicated server (or two)

Looking for 32 cores / 64 threads (or more), 256GB ECC RAM, two 2TB NVMe SSDs. I'll handle all server administration. Access via KVM over IP (or similar) would be great. Not looking for the cheapest. I'd rather pay for better support as there might be times where I need a little helping hand. I'll also need a block of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and this will be hosting virtual machines.

12 Cores CPU VPS vs 8 cores CPU dedicated server?

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a new server for my web hosting company and really interested in Vultr HF 12cores CPU vs Vultr Bare Metal 8cores/16 threads @3.7GHZ.

I have always used their VPS and have been happy with it so far, from RAM/ storage + internet speed pov, it seems Vultr Bare metal provides better value compared to their HF lineup.

Would 8 cores dedicated CPU outperformance a 12 cores vcpu? for web hosting? Assuming both hosting the same amount/ type of wordpress site?

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks everyone.

looking for a dedicated server for (internal) demos

Hi All,

I need a server (to start with) where I can do solution demos and build acceptance platform to perform upgrades etc.
For example, say a hosting company wants to design a solution where they want to move into ceph and openstack . and want a demo of how it looks like and how it works .. those are built virtually .. so this server will host a lot of virtual machines .. like 3x controllers, 3x ceph mons, 4x ceph osd, 4x hypervisors , 1x storage, 1x router , 3x object storage etc .. . you get the idea..

I already have a few servers from a provider, but the prices are getting higher, so I am just checking out what I can get. (maybe I am paying more)

Requirements:

at least 24 threads .. the more the better .. but not more than 40 threads ( can be amd or intel ) 1x ssd disk for the OS (can be 480gb min) and 2x 1 TB nvme .. ( i do not need raid , this has no customer data) 128 gb of ram Unmanaged kvm/idrac access preferred . but not a necessity. OS to be installed is ubuntu-focal minimum with only ssh enabled via ssh-key Bandwidth -- 99% incoming -- imagine 20-30 virtual-machines doing apt-get every week or doing git clone from github every few-days as a part of their build .. .. the only ports open = ssh and https ( say 1-2 hours per month, when a public demo is required) ... IPs - one for the main server, 3-4 additional Location: Europe preferred, but US is also OK.

Please do not ask me for a budget. But feel free to post your recommendations.

Thanks.

How to assign an entire /68 block of IPv6 Addresses?

I have almost the exact same question as this (unanswered) guy: /showthread.php?t=1398288&p=10298342#post10298342

Please do NOT ask why - I know what I'm doing, I have a good reason, and TCPDUMP alone isn't sufficient... [the "why" distraction ruined the above question].

I recently got a /64 block of IPv6 addresses. I want to use /68 of them ( 1,152,921,504,606,846,976 IPv6 addresses at once), how do I assign them all? Lets say the IPv6 range is 2607:f3a0:6:2:24::/68, do I need to list all quintillion IPv6 addresses in the network script like so?

IPV6ADDR_SECONDARIES="2607:f3a0:6:2:24::1/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::2/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::3/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::4/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::5/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::6/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::7/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::8/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::9/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::a/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::b/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::c/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::d/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::e/64 \
2607:f3a0:6:2:24::f/64"
Or is there an easier way? The server is running CentOS 8 stream (if that matters)

Looking for some suggestions regarding CPU selection

I am planning to upgrade my current, very old server (Dual E5-2430 Xeons, 12 cores/24 HT with SATA SSDs) which has been doing duty as a shared hosting server for around 400 websites. Have noticed slow website loading times. 95% sites are using PHP/MySQL(Wordpress).

From the time I got the server and now, so many new CPUs have come out and looks like the xeon e3/e5 lines have been discontinued. Dual scalable silver/gold xeon servers are out of my budget, so the only alternative is a E-2288G or a W-1290P (more interested in this one) xeon with NVMe drives. Passmark scores for these servers are much higher than my current one, but moving to these new servers will mean a downgrade in the number of cores.

Looking for some personal experiences with these E-2288G/W-1290P CPUs, so that I am not actually getting a downgrade by changing servers.

I don't need more than 64GB of RAM and a 2x2TB NVMe SSD is fine.

Hetzner Dedicated Server

an guy providing me hetzner dedicated server at 6800INR ( 76.91 EURO ) ( 93.22 USD )
here is configuration :-
-Intel Xeon E3-1275v5 (3.8 ghz,boostable upto 4.5 ghz) (8 threads)
-ipv4 1 ip
-ipv6 (/64 subnet)
-Ram: 64 GB(ECC DDR4)
-Storage: 2x 512 GB high speed NVME SSD(m.2) (700mbps - 1.5gbps) (software raid included)
Port speed: dedicated 1GBps(unmetered)
- NIC 1 Gbit - Intel I210 (network controller)
Location :- Germany

i want the same server from hetzner directly. i searched in server auction but NIC is I219 did not find I210
anyone could tell is I219 is better than I210 or not? i am newbie
and the configuration he sent same config is available in hetzner or not?
and that guy said he have rack from hetzner, what about it??

i am asking in forum because i can get more knowledge and explaination here

In need of self-managed storage dedicated server ~100 TB+ in Europe, Russia or CIS for image hosting

Hello everyone. Have been a long time lurker, but never registered. So, firstly want to say big thank you to this wholesome community for always giving great advices to everyone out there. You guys rock!

I am trying to find an alternative to Hetzner's SX133 which is ridiculously great priced. How do they even do that? Well done Hetzner. On 24/03/2021 - SX133's specs a
Intel® Xeon® W-2145 8 cores, 16 threads,
128 GB DDR4 ECC,
2 x 960 GB NVMe SSD,
10 x 16 TB (SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 rpm) a whooping 160 TB of storage,
1 Gbit/s connection,
Unlimited traffic,
159.00 (without TAX) I need this for an image hosting website, where users do sometimes upload adult content. Sadly Hetzner TOS (point 6.2) does not allow that and they are entitled to block access to the account of any customer who violates this. Which is fine - it's their rules.

My budget is 180 EUR (without TAX), but I don't even need such fancy specs as Hetzner provides. I am completely okay to settle with something like:
4 core, 8 thread CPU,
32 GB DRR3 ECC,
2 or even 1 240 GB SATA SSD,
The most important factor is storage. The more the better, the minimum would be ~100 TB (SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 rpm)
1 Gbit/s connection,
Website last month traffic was 500 TB, but since 90% is cached by CDN...would still need about 50 TB. Obviously unlimited traffic would be great. Seems like very few hosting companies actually offer dedicated servers for storage purposes. I have already checked OVH, Leaseweb, OneProvider, Flaunt7 and some local country hostings, but it seems like noone is even close in comparison to what Hetzner offers. It's like their offer is from the future and hopefully in 1-2 years time, others will get there as well.

It be nice if server were located somewhere close to West/Middle of Russia.

P.S As another option, maybe I could rent more then one dedicated server so that their storage capacity would be ~100 TB and going with CEPH instead of RAID6, but still, can't exced 180 EUR budget. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

10 Gbps Server Settings and Nginx Config

Hello All,

I recently upgraded a dedicated server I have with Hivelocity in their Tampa 2 datacenter to 10 Gbps networking and I'm having a hard time getting anything above 1.5 Gbps out of the server. I have been searching and trying different settings with Nginx for 2 days with no luck on improving the situation and support has not been very helpful with this one. We did a iperf test a couple times and they only got 750 Mbps to there speedtest server which I thought was odd.

Does anyone who has experience with 10 Gig networking have any tips I could try for Nginx or server OS optimizations? The server is serving a 300 Mb static file (that is downloaded in 5 threads at once) for the most part and needs to handle downloads from it of about 3000 Mbps (Verizon Ultrawideband). The server is a Six Core Xeon with 32GB of ram and 512GB NVMe SSD.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking for a dedicated server to run my Email Marketing business

I am in need of a dedicated server for my business which will be running a white-label version of Mailwizz.

The amount of clients is approx 25 and growing daily.

These clients run various websites, blogs, membership clubs, create courses etc etc..

They have email lists that range anywhere between 5k to 500k subscribers.

The server I need WILL NOT be in charge of sending email to these lists. It's main purpose is housing the self-hosted email marketing application Mailwizz.

I am looking for a quality host that can handle the following requirements to run Mailwizz:
- Linux operating system
- Apache/Nginx webserver
- PHP >= 5.2
- MySQL/MariaDB, with InnoDB storage engine
- Cron Jobs access (linux crons not web crons please)

My budget is around $150-200/mo for a single dedicated CPU. I can allocate more of a budget if you think dual cpu is necessary.

I have these in mind:

MOJOHOST FAST E3-2: Xeon 4 Cores 8 Threads, 2 Storage Bays - $159
E3 Intel Xeon CPU
4/8/8M Cores/Threads/Cache
3.2/3.9 Gigahertz (min/max)
16 GB DDR3 1600 ECC RAM
(2) 1 TB Enterprise HDD Storage
(2) Total Drive Bays
1,000 Megabit WAN Uplink
1,000 Megabit LAN Uplink
25,000 GB Included Transfer
.01 Cost per GB Over

MOJOHOST FAST E3-6: Xeon 4 Cores 8 Threads, 6 Storage Bays - $199
E3 Intel Xeon CPU
4/8/8M Cores/Threads/Cache
3.2/3.9 Gigahertz (min/max)
16 GB DDR3 1600 ECC RAM
(4) 1 TB Enterprise HDD Storage
RAID CARD Optional
(6) Total Drive Bays
1,000 Megabit WAN Uplink
1,000 Megabit LAN Uplink
25,000 GB Included Transfer
.01 Cost per GB Over

ProlimeHost
Intel 2276G
6 cores, 12 threads
32 GB
480G SSD or 2TB HDD
40 TB
$99/mo

I am even considering a Ryzen setup from either ProlimeHost or Hivelocity which has servers using EPYC. Although I am not sure if it's wise to go with consumer-grade hardware for this setup?

This is the one from ProlimeHost:
AMD Ryzen 3700x
8 cores 16 threads
64 GB
480G SSD or 2TB HDD
40 TB
$119/m

DatabaseByDesignLLC also has a special going on for a dual cpu server with 96gb ram although they are using an older X5560 cpu.

Not sure if that's too outdated though...

96GB + SSD Dedicated Server

Dedicated Server Specifications:
Dual Quad Core
96GB ECC DDR3 Memory
1x 240GB SSD
1Gbps Public Network Port
100TB Premium Bandwidth
1 Public IPv4 Address
Remote Access Card (IPMI)

Vsphere 7 supported server

Hi,
I am based in London and need a dedicated server to host some vm's eg grafana, prometheus (IT ops stuff).

However, I want to deploy vsphere 7 as it has good support for Kubernetes.

What would be the cheapest combination for a vsphere 7 supported server with the most memory/storage? Who should I look at?
